Parlons Français à Carmel – the Barzaz Breiz

The Barzaz Breiz is a compilation of songs published in 1839. The author roamed the country of Brittany and (see picture above) collected both lyrics and tunes from common people, who spoke only the local language: breton. This was the first book documenting the area’s folk culture, and it sparked a growing interest not just in breton, but all regional cultures such as Picard, Basque and Alsatian.
We will be reading one of the songs, translated in French.
