An illustrious institution

The Alliance Française of Indianapolis is chartered through the Alliance Française de Paris (AFP). The label of the Alliance Française of Paris has been recognized throughout the world since the founding in 1883 of this illustrious institution of which all Alliances Françaises are affiliate members.

A worldwide network

The Alliance Française is also a worldwide network comprised of more than 1,135 Alliance Française associations in 138 countries with 130 other chapters throughout the United States. More at

An American national level federation

In the United States each chapter is distinguished by geographic location, history, structure and the surrounding community. Functioning independently, the American alliances are unified by a common mission and by their membership in the Federation of Alliances Françaises, USA, Inc. (FAF), which acts as their spokesperson with the AFP and collaborates closely with the Délégation Générale, whose office is located in Washington, DC. More at


Our mission

In accordance with our statutes and with the common mission that inspires us, AFI’s objective is to represent and to promote, through a system of friendships and reciprocal exchanges, the French language and francophone cultures in all their richness within the state of Indiana.

Our members

Above all, our members who are the fiber of our existence. They make our richness. They uphold us with their confidence, their loyalty, their enthusiasm and their participation. We thank them all, notably those who have served or who still serve our association in their capacity as officers and directors of the board, as facilitators of diverse activities, or who volunteer for a variety of activities in the service of AFI.

 Our legal statute

The Alliance Française d’Indianapolis is an educational and cultural organization of the French language, incorporated in the State of Indiana. It is a not-for-profit organization that carries chapter 501(c)(3) status of the U. S. Internal Revenue Code.
