Beaujolais nouveau -“The New Beaujolais” is a red wine made from Gamay grapes produced in the Beaujolais region of France.
Originally, Beaujolais nouveau was the wine enjoyed by vineyard workers to celebrate the end of harvest and experience the first taste of the new vintage. Because it is the first wine of the harvest, made quickly in only 6-8 weeks (as opposed to 6-24 months for most wines), Beaujolais nouveau is light, fruity, and a bit lower in alcohol. The third Thursday in November is the formal release date of Beaujolais nouveau.
